It's a sad day for frugal fashionistas who may have found out that the bargain designer handbags being sold at Sam's Clubs across the US are no better than the cheap chinese fakes found on dozens of city street corners in Manhattan and other urban centers. At least, that's what Feni's parent company, LVMH Moet Hennessy Louis Vuitton, is saying.![]()
I saw these bags myself not long ago while visiting Sam's to pick up some food for a party. They had a number of high-end designer handbags including Fendi, Prada and Kate Spade. While the selection wasn't great, the brands were quite impressive.
I might have bought one, but the truth is that even though they were clearly discounted from typical boutique prices, they weren't giving these babies away. I passed and went on to pick up a 5lb box of hors d'oeuvres.
Sure, it did seem odd to find luxury brands at a warehouse store, but who would ever suspect Walmart of trying to pass off a fake Fendi? This story just broke - so it'll be interesting to see the response from Arkansas corporate headquarters.
