Ramada is a well known and fairly reputable name in the hospitality industry, but not so it's franchised business, Ramada Plaza Resorts.
The parent Ramada company takes no responsibility for this unscrupulous outfit which has logged THOUSANDS of consumer complaints for its bait and switch scam.
Here's what happens: RPR sends out cards in the mail telling people to "call now" to take advantage of fabulous, luxury vacation packages. These often include a land and cruise component and appear to be all inclusive, including tickets to attractions. It's all supposed to be first class, with first rate hotels, upgraded cars, outside staterooms. The entire deal is promised at a very enticing price.
Those who go on the vacation find themselves at one-star flea-bag hotels, crammed into economy cars, given limited attraction tickets, sailing on a rust and filth-ridden ship and worst of all, forced to endure a lengthy high-pressure sales pitch which is never mentioned when the trip is booked.
Some folks discover that the company is a fraud and so they try to cancel and get a refund, usually with much frustration and little success.
The lesson is:
- Always check out vacation packages before purchasing (the internet is a tremendous resource for validating whether or not something is a scam).
- Never be pressured into anything by a sales person who won't give you time to investigate what they're offering. Legitimate deals rarely "expire" if you don't "act now."
- Make sure any vacation package specifies the exact hotel, ship or car you're booking. Be sure to get it in writing.
- And consider steering clear of anything with the Ramada name. Obviously the company cares little about its reputation. Imagine then, how much they care about consumers.
