Global warming concerns are growing
on the news that Arctic ice is no longer supposed to last until 2100, as originally predicted, or even until 2040, as was predicted more recently. The latest information indicates that the Arctic ice may be completely gone in the summer of 2012, a very few years from now. Environmentalists, on this news, have redoubled their efforts to convince government and industry to reduce greenhouse gas emissions worldwide.

At the same time, corporation whose products produce greenhouse gases are turning to spin, called “Greenwash,” to improve their public relations. They are touting small “clean” operation that are a part of the overall “dirty” operations. Neste Oil, for example, is touting a planned biodiesel plant in Singapore, near Bali where the United Nations is holding an important meeting on greenhouse gases. Companies like GE are also producing commercial that overstate the effectiveness of “clean coal.”
Greenwash is obviously a form of lying to the public, to one degree or another. Now that the connection between greenhouse gases and global climate change has been proven, these companies need to take the correct ethical actions. Instead of worrying solely about public relations, they need to join the rest of the world in taking meaningful actions to combat climate change. Misleading the public is just Bad Business and will do nothing to avert what is turning into a major global disaster.
